The casket of unsaid words

Cycling through the streets
Of our old high school blocks,
Where we exchanged glances
Hiding our secret love.

The letters that turned to mails
Were secretly held in drafts,
Where I had the courage to pen
But not enough to send!

The man I was to marry
Asked me if I’ve loved,
My silence spoke of you
But my lips hushed a “No”!

Fifteen years have passed
We get to meet again,
You stutter to your wife
Calling me an “old friend”!

Those unsaid words
Haunt me now and then,
Like souls from a casket
Hidden beneath the stars!
